CJ, senior judges not to take over as acting governor: NJC committee

ISLAMABAD: Policy making committee of the National Judicial Council (NJC) has decided that neither the Chief Justice of Pakistan nor any other judge of a superior court would assume the position of acting governor.

This was decided at a meeting of policy making committee of NJC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry.

The meeting also decided that the Chief Justice of Pakistan or any other judge of a superior court would accept any position under federal or provincial government.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Iftikahr Muhammad Chaudhry said the National Judicial Policy is being prepared to eradicate corruption from the judiciary. He urged judges, lawyers and other stakeholders to extend their cooperation.

Presiding over the meeting of policy making committee of the National Judicial Council the chief justice said that the corrupt and non-performing officials will be discouraged.

The Chief Justice also directed Chief Justices of High Courts to hold consultations with the judges, lawyers and other stakeholders in their respective provinces and to present their reports in the next session of the committee.

He said the cases can be settled earlier with the enforcement of the existing laws and highlighted the need of dispensation of quick justice to the people.
