American Airlines Passengers Held Over Fear of Swine Flu

. Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - American Airlines passengers arriving in Japan yesterday were held by health officials while a fellow passenger was tested for swine flu.
Flight 169 left Los Angeles on Sunday, arriving at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, Monday afternoon at which time it was borded by health officials.
Health officials singled out a female passenger for testing, and also detained passengers sitting near her and 2 crew members.
American spokesman Tim Wagner stated that he is unsure as to why Japanese health officials chose to single out the female passenger for testing as she did not appear to be sick.
When tests on the woman came back negative, all passengers and crew members were subsequently released.
It is now common practice for all incoming flights from Mexico, Canada and the United States to be borded by health officials upon arrival in Japan, at which time passengers are screened for swine flu before they leave the plane. link...
